Meet Ross Murty, co-owner of the Village Corner Deli in Davenport, Iowa.
Murty catered President Obama’s visit to Davenport on Wednesday, wearing a t-shirt that said “Government Didn’t Build My Business, I Did.”
“No one from the government was there when we were sweating it, when we were building this business,” Murty said.
Murty, a Republican, was out of town at a Cubs game in Chicago when representatives from the Obama campaign came in and asked his business partner, Bret Dalton, a Democrat, if they would be interested in a catering job. Dalton accepted, informing Murty after the fact.
“I would never say no to anybody for any reason,” Murty said. “My partner and I have different views in politics, but business is business.”
