Grounded

March 1, 2013

As part of its never-ending efforts to scare the hell out of low-information voters, the Obama administration recently sent out Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to warn the public how sequestration would affect air travel. Apparently any decrease, however small, in the rate of increase in spending is going to have consequences almost too horrible to contemplate.

The Bard of Murdock comments:

From the shores of California,
To the mountains of PA,
We will fight our budget battles
With the threat of flight delay.
We will furlough half our workers.
We will send them home to stay.
You will surely learn a lesson
If you mess with TSA.

From the field at Opa-Locka
To Muskegon County’s sky,
We will limit travel service
And the numbers who can fly.
From the plains of Oklahoma,
To the shores of Tampa Bay,
You will learn the gift of patience
If you mess with TSA.

Here’s to us and to our union,
For in it we proudly serve.
It provides us with a pension,
And the jobs that we deserve.
If the public and the Congress
Cut our budget they will pay!
They will surely learn a lesson
If they mess with TSA.

Fighting for the working man. No, literally.

December 13, 2012

(The following appeared on Planet Moron on December 12, 2012 and is reprinted with permission.)

There has been some controversy of late over a little tussle that occurred in Michigan where state legislators were voting on a “right to work” law that could potentially undermine union influence and power in the state. Naturally, union members turned out to protest the law however some people have misinterpreted their enthusiasm and vigor. To help clear things up we thought we’d address the confusion with a quick Q&A:

Q: What happened? It appeared that union members physically attacked people engaging in constitutionally protected free speech.

A: No, no, nothing could be further from the truth.

Q: Look at the video, one guy just started laying in on Steven Crowder with left and right roundhouse punches.

A: That was just a metaphor.

Q: A metaphor?

A: Sure. The individual was simply expressing the essential conflict between left and right common in non-parliamentary democracies in which two dominant parties typically “fight it out” if you will, in the field of ideas.

Q: But he was literally punching the guy in the face in an actual field.

A: Think of his face as a canvas on which the union member/interpretive artist was painting a picture.

Q: The guy punched him in the face! This is absolutely outrageous and under no circumstances can it be allowed to go unpunished.

A: Whoa, whoa, easy on the inflammatory rhetoric there. You wouldn’t want to incite some Tea Party nut into engaging in violence, such as criticizing Obamacare, or possibly creating a sign expressing disapproval of the current administration.

Q: That’s violent?

A: Absolutely. Violent to anyone’s sense of fairness.

Q: What about actual violence, like physically tearing down a tent with people still inside?

A: That was a misunderstanding.

Q: What about the Michigan legislator who promised “there will be blood?”

A: Hey, that could mean anything.

Q: And why isn’t the media paying any attention to this? They turned over rocks looking for signs of Tea Party violence but they can’t be bothered to report on this?

A: Report on what?

Q: The union violence and threats from elected Democrats?

A: There was union violence and threats from elected Democrats?

Q: Yes.

A: Well, we didn’t read anything about that in the papers…

Be true to your school

October 15, 2012

Teachers unions and the Democrat party have long been involved in running a racket that benefits them both, at the expense of us ordinary working stiffs who lacked the good sense to get a government job. It works like this: the taxpayers pay the teachers; the teachers pay their union dues; the unions pay to elect more Democrats; the Democrats vote for increases in teacher pay and benefits; and the taxpayers are screwed.

The incestuous relationship between the unions and the Democrat party has been remarked on so often that it mostly elicits yawns, when it elicits any reaction at all. So I should not have been at all surprised when I saw that the headquarters of the local teachers’ union in my town is now doubling as the headquarters of the local Democrat party. Apparently, they finally decided it was time to drop the pretense that the two organizations are not in bed with each other.

Here’s a picture of the union/party headquarters (click to enlarge):

Any suggestion that the schools are not doing an adequate job of educating the children is met with demands from the Democrats in Madison for more funding, even though all their previous funding increases have failed to improve educational outcomes. Naturally, the teachers are grateful for the pay increases and fancier benefits packages, and they repay the Democrat legislators’ generosity by indoctrinating their students into being good little socialists who, when they grow up, will reliably vote Democrat.

As John Dewey, the father of American public education, said: “You can’t make socialists out of individualists. Children who know how to think for themselves spoil the harmony of the collective society, which is coming, where everyone is interdependent.” Barack Obama himself could not have said it better.

Schadenfreude Wednesday may be over, but I’m still having fun watching lefty heads explode.

A very sad night for MSNBC (have the kleenex handy):

These folks are backpedaling so fast, they’re gonna pull a hamstring:

Loser Tom Barrett gets a slap in the face from one of his loyal supporters:

The Occupy the Capitol crowd, in happier times:

Disappointed Barrett supporters hold a post-election Solidarity Sing-Along outside the Capitol:

Paul Begala criticizes Obama for his failure to campaign for Barrett:

Moe Lane at RedState offers words of comfort.

Jon Stewart of The Daily Show slams MSNBC’s coverage of the recall.

Al Sharpton explains how evil Republicans stole an election that rightfully belonged to Democrats.
