Recipes from my father

It all started when David Axelrod decided to make political hay out of an incident that occurred in 1983, when Mitt Romney took his wife and sons to their summer cottage in Canada, and made the drive from Boston to Ontario with the family dog riding in a kennel strapped to the top of the station wagon. Axelrod tweeted a picture of Barack Obama with First Dog Bo riding in the presidential limo, with the oh-so-witty caption “How loving owners transport their dogs.” This prompted Jim Treacher to point out that while Romney may have had an unorthodox way of transporting his dog, at least he never ate one, which is more than you can say for Obama. In his memoir, Dreams from My Father, Obama described how his stepfather, Lolo Soetoro, introduced him to the pleasures of eating dog. This prompted some speculation about the sort of recipes that Lolo might have used:

Chihuahua Chimichanga

German Shepherd’s Pie

Chicken Poodle Soup

Chinese Chow Chow Mein

Bichon Fricassee

Hound Cake

Puppyseed Bagels

Chili Con Corgi

Dog Collared Greens

Boston Terrier Market: Obama’s favorite takeout
