KTVU News in Oakland, California reports the names of the pilots on Asiana Flight 214…
… then apologizes for the error:
According to Fox News:
In a statement on its website, KTVU said it had made a mistake by not phonetically sounding out the names.
“We heard this person verify the information without questioning who they were and then rushed the names on our noon newscast,” the station said.
The NTSB also apologized and said a summer intern “acted outside the scope of his authority” when he erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew.
“Appropriate actions will be taken to ensure that such a serious error is not repeated,” the NTSB said in a statement.
The hoax should have been obvious without reading the names aloud. KTVU earns dunce-of-the-year award.

Are you kidding me? I can’t believe that anchor woman could actually read those names and not stop immediately (or bust out laughing–CUT to commercial NOW!). And we wonder where all those dumb blonde jokes come from. (don’t accuse me of sexism ’cause I’m a blonde female!)

I’m with you — just seeing those names on the screen cracked me up, and I would never have been able to read them aloud without giggling. That someone could do it with a straight face is amazing enough, but that she really didn’t get the joke is almost incomprehensible.

That’s really the hilarious part. When she read “Ho Lee Fuk” with a straight face I almost couldn’t laugh because it was so unbelievable.
