The priest’s dying wish

An elderly priest lay dying in a hospital in Washington DC. He rang for the nurse.

“Yes, Father?” said the nurse.

“I would like to see Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid before I die,” said the priest.

“I’ll see what I can do, Father,” replied the nurse, and she called Pelosi and Reid’s offices to convey the priest’s request.

Nancy and Harry talked it over and decided that it would make a great photo op. So they notified the local media, and went to the hospital with reporters and camera crews in tow.

When they arrived at the priest’s bedside, he took Pelosi’s hand in his right hand and Reid’s hand in his left. A look of peace and serenity lit up the old man’s face.

Nancy said, “Father, of all the people you could have chosen, why did you want us to be with you at the end of your life?”

The priest replied, “I have always tried to pattern my life after the life of Jesus Christ. He died between two lying thieves, and I want to do the same.”
