  4. I know and love the song as *Oh come, oh come Emanuel*. Kodály’s beautiful take on it was new to me. Thanks for sharing it.

    • I’m glad you enjoyed it! I heard the Kodály arrangement for the first time about 35 years ago, when a choir I sang in performed it at one of our Christmas concerts — only we sang it in English. I fell in love with the arrangement, with its constantly-varying harmonies, but I was never able to find a recording of it. (This was back in the days when you had to search for LPs in actual record stores.) Years went by, and I kept hoping I would hear it again, but I never did. Well, thank goodness for YouTube — recently I searched and found quite a few performances of the Kodály arrangement. I wasn’t able to find one sung in English, but most people are familiar with the words, so hearing it sung in Latin doesn’t really detract from the experience. 🙂
