From The Onion.
NAGS HEAD, NC—Continuously doing laundry, cooking, or vacuuming in her family’s rented beach cottage this week, area mom Catherine Yardley has spent a much-needed vacation performing all her usual household chores while in closer proximity to the ocean, sources confirmed.
“Isn’t it nice to just get away for a while and relax by the water?” Yardley said as she wiped down the kitchen counter and then took out the garbage, tasks she would normally perform at a distance of 200 miles from the beach instead of 50 feet. “I just love that I can be scrubbing the bathroom, look out the window, and see the tide coming in. We should do this every year!”
At press time, Yardley was reportedly busy preparing a meal identical to what she would have made back home, except that she planned to serve it on paper plates.
Ha! 🙂

The Onion, indeed! I remember our yearly trips to a lake cottage for several weeks in the summer with a neighbor family. Starting two to three weeks before my mom and the other mom were putting together menus and shopping lists since all the food had to be brought along. It was like a war room. After shopping for all the food it had to be packed up and loaded in the cars. After arriving it was the two of them cooking meals, straightening up, overseeing activities like boating, et al. Between the two families there was 6 kids to monitor.
I don’t know how they did it. Some vacation for them, except they seemed to have a good time of it. Thanks, Mom.

I know that’s what’s so great about the Onion, it’s both satire and truth at the same time! 🌊

Reblogged this on Musings on Life & Experience and commented:
Hilarious but probably true, at least in the 50’s. My aunt once spent her vacation cleaning her husband’s fish.

Yes, but it’s so often true. Some families give mum a rest,
though, with dad doing the cooking while on holiday. Cleaning, everyone joins in. That’s only fair.
