Sunday musical offering

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
Who unto the Savior for refuge have fled?

In every condition—in sickness, in health,
In poverty’s vale or abounding in wealth,
At home or abroad, on the land or the sea—
As thy days may demand, so thy succor shall be.

Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid.
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose
I will not, I cannot, desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.

  1. Truly beautiful after a week of hate and shouting and nastiness. I needed this. 🙂 — Suzanne

  2. Like the splendid choir, the orchestra has a clean sound despite being large.  Kudos to the camera ppl for angles and panning that are much more imaginative than usual in filming musical performances.

    • You’ve hit on some of the reasons why I post so many videos by the MTC: They truly care about excellence in their music, and they go to the trouble of making professional-quality recordings of their work. I wish more choirs and other music ensembles would follow their lead. Also, Mack Wilberg is one of my favorite choral arrangers.

When singing this hymn, and we get to this line, my soul soars! So lovely it is.

Indeed, I’ve always liked how harmony comes in such plenitude all over those people and instruments simultaneously.
