Happy Saint Patrick’s Day, Bob! I’m familiar with St. Patrick’s missionary work in Ireland, but haven’t heard of this snake myth before. Could you tell me more?

It’s one of those legends whose origins seem to be shrouded in impenetrable mystery. Apparently the fact that there are no snakes in Ireland required some kind of explanation, and St. Patrick being the patron saint of Ireland, this curious circumstance somehow came to be attributed to him.
