He lived on the Lower East Side and used to work in a saloon or restaurant on Pell St in NYC under the name of Izzy Baline. That was a cool history find when I was reading about my neighborhood 🙂

I saw the stage version a few years ago. It was very good, although not as good as it would have been if the actor who was supposed to play the monster had not suffered a broken ankle at the last minute, and been replaced by a stand-in.

Yes, I know some of them were quite racist and street-culture language, and I can’t make out all of them now in this film, but I know we performed the expurgated and updated version a few years back.
