Good dancer–it almost seems those trousers covered much of the subtlety for the audience.

Was that Cab Calloway introducing him? Those muscles in Bill Bailey must have been really something to produce the moonwalk so smoothly and all the other rapid motions–it seemed like hard work.

    • Whenever I see a performance like this, I marvel at the insane amount of hard work that had to have gone into mastering the moves, and at how effortless the performer makes it look.

I think it is especially hard since many in the audience can’t see more than a guy in a loose-flowing suit moving somewhat, except if he makes very big moves with pinwheeling arms and folding up legs. It seems like a cabaret or small venue would work best for seeing detail, or of course tv if available. The audience seemed quite big and quite unable to see much of the subtleties–I was surprised it was a traditional theater setup. We are so spoiled these days to be able to see every detail projected up close, repeated, seen from different angles. I am unsure how, as a stage manager, I would have made it more visible to the whole crowd…hmm.

  3. Now we know where Michael Jackson got the Moonwalk from. This was excellent dancing. 🙂 — Suzanne

Pretty sure not. Can’t remember the guy’s name, but he mainly hosted this variety show, IIRC.

I was watching the video, and formulating my comment about it (Hey, this guy’s reallly good) when he suddenly shifted into high gear. All I could say is, wow!

    Thanks, BoB.
