The “pre-approved” pets gate reminds me of the story of the woman who asked her pastor if pets got into heaven. (Stop me if you’ve heard this one… or I stole it from here.)
The pastor carefully explained, with scriptural and doctrinal supporting arguments, why animals do not develop souls which go to heaven.
Well, then, replied the woman, if my little Fluffy isn’t there, then I don’t want to go.
In that case, the pastor quickly said, of course our pets are in heaven!

As a child, I was told the same thing — that animals don’t have souls and can’t go to heaven. I didn’t believe it then and I don’t believe it now. What absolute nonsense.
