Friday happy dance

In honor of the birthday of Ukrainian-born composer Reinhold Glière (1875-1956), here is a performance of the Russian Sailors’ Dance from his Red Poppy Ballet.

    • He was an interesting character — the son of a German father and Polish mother, born in Kiev, educated in Moscow, a citizen first of the Russian empire and later the Soviet Union. “The Russian Sailors’ Dance” was originally titled ” “Dance of the Sailors from the Soviet Ship,” but since the USSR became defunct everyone just calls it “The Russian Sailors’ Dance.” 🙂
