Friday happy dance

It’s the birthday of the American actor, dancer, singer, songwriter, playwright, and producer George Michael Cohan (1878-1942). His parents were traveling vaudeville performers, and George and his sister Josephine grew up on the stage as part of the family act. Cohan wrote hundreds of songs, including “Give My Regards to Broadway,” “Over There,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” and “Yankee Doodle Boy.” A musical biopic of Cohan, Yankee Doodle Dandy, was released shortly before Cohan’s death in 1942. James Cagney won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Cohan.

  1. I fell in love with this movie when I was a teen, and nothing has changed. I watched it at my Grandpa Sam’s, who was born on the 3rd of July. 🙂
