But I felt a bit sad looking at the swallows on the phone lines. There was a time when it really was like that. Now hardly any. I don’t think I’ve seen a swallow this summer.
There used to be swifts over this town. None for many years. When we first moved in, 18 years ago, swallows nested under the eaves of our house. (They did make a mess, though!) we’ve not had a nest for I can’t remember how long. I’d forgive them the mess just to see them back.
