      Dating myself with this, but I was an adolescent when “touch-tone” phones, as they were called, first came on the scene. We never had one because they cost a lot more.

      That was around the time when we did, finally, get a color TV. It was nineteen inches and considered big.

      • I hear you. I thought touch-tone phones were the coolest thing ever when I was a teenager, but we kept our old rotary dial because my dad was a skinflint. He and my mom didn’t get color TV until after all of us kids had moved out. They generously gave me their old black-and-white TV, which was a real lemon — it kept blowing fuses. Ah, the good old days…

      • I still like the idea of having a touchtone phone with an answering machine. My husband and I didn’t get a color TV until 1978 when the children were small. My parents never had one. 🙂 — Suzanne
