Mrs. Jordan’s first grade students were in the school library, browsing through picture books, when little Emily suddenly said, “Hey, look at this! It’s a frickin’ elephant!”
Mrs. Jordan was shocked. “What did you say?” she asked.
“I said it’s a frickin’ elephant,” Emily replied. “It says so right here on the picture.”
Mrs. Jordan took the book and looked at it, and sure enough, the child was right:

AFRICAN ELEPHANT

My cousin’s daughter served in Iraq, Korea, and Afghanistan, so, military for many years.
When she came to visit my Mom, every third word was “frickin’.”
Later, Mom and I agreed that when you use the substitute word that much, and that emphatically, it loses its substitutionary power. 😀

I had to take a moment’s thought. But all the best ones make you think. I love it.

I once lived next door to a very nice woman who had named her daughter Africa. The daughter was twelve years old at the time. Probably because of being teased about her name in school, Africa told everybody to call her “Freeka.” Which of course led to the bullies calling her “Freaky.”
But I digress. Sorry. It’s been a long pandemic.
I agree with you, BoB, that’s the frickinest elephant I’ve ever seen.

Very continental name. Imagine being named North America.

Well… my hubby is Polish. He has a very long, frequently mispronounced first and last name to prove it. However , he is only 6’2″. ; -)

(I am half-Slavic, although the names on that side were simple and / or Anglicized.)
