    We farmed but the men worked in the mines, too, so this song means a lot to me. My generation, thank God, escaped it.

  6. The go-go style … doesn’t quite synch with the story the lyrics tell! If you must add dancers, I think dark beatnik spandex and lots of swooning and flopping around, frowning.

    This is in the upper tiers of cringe, along with those clean-cut kids, Gail and Dale, doing a duet of “One Toke Over the Line” on Lawrence Welk.
