There was a time when I had 5 dogs, 5 cats, 44 rabbits, 4 guinea pigs, 2 chickens and one raccoon – somehow they knew they HAD to get along like these pictures. In fact, my male black Lab once carried all the new kittens to the living room and tried to nurse them!!

Once people knew I couldn’t refuse an animal, they started dropping them off for me to care for. I could have started my own kennel!! Too bad I already had a full time job.

Once you have a reputation for being an old softie, it’s all over. That’s how I ended up with a houseful of grandcats — my kids always knew that no matter what mangy little stray they brought home, Mom would never be able to say “no.”
My sister-in-law, who ran a boarding kennel for many years, was always taking in strays and trying to find homes for them. That gave her a reputation for being someone who takes in strays, with predictable results. My kids used to love going to visit her, because it was like going to the zoo. 🙂

I can see that! Thanks for telling me your own stories!! Us softies have to stick together.
