We call my grandparents Grandpa and Grandma, but my dad sometimes calls Grandma: Granny.

On one side of the family it was Mamaw and Papaw, the other side was Nonie and Granddaddy.

Our oldest grandchild chose our names, Gapi and Gami, apparently to rhyme with her parents Papi and Mami. My wife wanted to be Gramma, so she was not thrilled.

🙂 Southern ladies are a force to be reckoned with –and I love grandparent names invented by the youngsters themselves! We’re “Grandma and Grandpa” to 5 grands, and when #6 forms complicated words, we’ll aim for that again, but we’ll see what the other grandparents (first-timers!) want to go with.
