Anyone who has followed this site for longer than a month or two knows that when it comes to music, I could fairly be described as an uptight traditionalist. When this performance by Brazilian heavy metal artist Dan Vasc popped up on YouTube, my first impulse was to give it a miss, but curiosity got the better of me and I listened. To my astonishment, I ended up loving it. I hope that at least some of my readers will enjoy it as well.
Wow.

Singing is fine. Attitude–either angry or triumphant–inappropriate for song or season.

I knew when I posted it that it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea. It’s a very muscular, masculine take on a traditional tune, and although I knew some people wouldn’t like it, I thought it deserved to be more widely shared.

Amazing and very inspiring. This morning, I said to myself, have passion in whatever you do. And then I found this gem from you in my feed. Thank you so much. It reinforces me. I might be in my 60’s, but I intend to keep doing everything with passion as long as I am able. I also want to take a moment to thank you for all the sweet and funny memes and cartoons you share. It’s appreciated.

I’m so glad you enjoyed the song. I posted it with some trepidation, not knowing what sort of response it would get, but apparently I’m not alone in loving it. 🙂

How is this metal? This is operatic, perhaps Wagnerian…

Kinda reminded me of The Hu, another type of music that’s not my norm , but strangely enjoyable.

“It’s a very muscular, masculine take on a traditional tune” As a music lover, I enjoy feminine music sung by women. As a man, I enjoy masculine, muscular music sung by a strong male. I am not by any means a Heavy Metal enthusiast. My tastes tend to Gospel and Country & Western music and some classical. I appreciate good music and this was very good, thank you bluebird !

Just between you and me, I was tempted to describe Vasc’s performance as “high testosterone” but I didn’t want to trigger anyone. 🙂

I would describe it that way, but then again I have testosterone, so I get a pass…

I thought it was quite entertaining and surprisingly good. Much like David Draiman’s (Disturbed’s lead singer) version of Sounds of Silence.
