Certainly there are lots of things in life that money won’t buy, but have you ever tried to buy them without money?

Oh, boy! “Ode to Billie Joe” almost never gets played on the radio these days so I feel like I’m in a super-secret club to get the first one! 🙂

I’m a member of that club too. I knew exactly what it was. 🙂

It was the third of June, another sleepy dusty delta day
I was out chopping cotton and my brother was bailing hay
and at dinner time we stopped and walked back to the house to eat
and mamma hollered out the back door, “Y’all remember to wipe your feet”
Then she said, “I got some news this morning from Choctaw Ridge
Today Billie Joe McAllister jumped off the Tallahatche bridge”

After I wrote the above lyrics from memory, I did a google search and found the whole song, which I still remember by heart. However, I misspelled the name of the bridge. It’s Tallahatchie. And yes, Billy Joe should have survived that fall.

Nowhere in the lyrics does it say that he didn’t survive.

There are a number of things in the song that are definitely open to interpretation.

That one was especially funny, given today’s technology. Ever see the YouBoob one of youngsters and teens “confronted” with the technology of the 50’s and 60’s? That’s a real hoot!
