  1. We took down the outdoor decorations about a month ago now. As for the indoor decorations…not just yet. However, they will be taken down before six more weeks expire!

    So it’s Groundhog Day. We don’t have groundhogs in the UK. However, at this time of year, our Celtic ancestors celebrated Imbolc when the weather for the next few weeks was predicted. Sounds a wee bit similar, except that here it is the Cailleach, the hag of winter. She comes out to collect firewood for the rest of winter. If it is fine, she can go out and gather more wood, so will prolong winter. If it’s cold, she stays in so won’t have enough wood, so winter will end.
    Imbolc starts with the birth of the first lamb.
