It’s the birthday of Edvard Grieg (1842-1907), who composed “Wedding Day at Troldhaugen” in 1896, the year he and his wife celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Originally composed for piano, it’s played here by the Chicago Harp Quartet.

It’s the birthday of Norwegian composer and concert pianist Edvard Grieg (1842-1907), the guy who put Norway on the musical map. Grieg’s Holberg Suite, composed 1884, consists of five movements, each based on an 18th century dance form. Here is the third movement, played by the strings of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra — a group of musicians who make no secret of how much fun they’re having.

Disney’s “Silly Symphonies” were among the earliest music videos ever made, and for most of the Baby Boom generation, they were our introduction to classical music. This one incorporates a theme from Edvard Grieg’s “March of the Trolls” into the soundtrack.
