Mickey and Minnie Mouse made their film debut in 1928 in “Plane Crazy.” Like most cartoons of the era, it has something to offend almost everyone, including violence, cruelty to animals, gender stereotyping, and unwanted sexual aggression. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

It’s the 91st anniversary of the premiere of “Steamboat Willie,” which was the first film starring Mickey and Minnie Mouse to be shown in theaters. The two mice had actually made their debut a few months earlier in “Plane Crazy,” which failed to find a distributor in 1928 and was not released until the following year, after the success of “Steamboat Willie” had made stars of Mickey and Minnie.
